With internet speeds being less of a barrier and more ways to consume media than ever before, podcasts are on the rise. Here are 5 simple tips to improve your chances of being a rockstar podcaster, but some work will be required on your end 🙂
Today, information and knowledge have collectively become the driving force for any efficient business model, podcasting included.
To get started, you must understand the challenges associated with podcasting and the need for commitment, especially when it’s a possible source of income.
Podcasters have an opportunity to discuss compelling niches, sharing their passions with a like-minded community. Podcasts often become passion projects for many people. Through hard work, podcasts can truly take off and monetize well.
Below are 5 simple tips to help you get your podcast up and running.
1. What is your podcast message?
Before setting out on any successful venture, intentions must be well stated during the planning phase.
As a recommendation, get yourself a podcast planner worksheet. It can help you clearly define what you hope to achieve with your podcast, topics of discussion, timing, and guest list planning.
These simple points can help you establish a baseline script that you can use, and cues to keep the show moving!
2. What is your Branding?
Psychology teaches that words alone do not efficiently evoke human reactions. Consider your tone of voice, personality, and language style for your audience. What will be engaging for them?
For your podcast to be unique and exciting, it needs to keep viewers wanting to hear the next episode. Consider an opening jingle, background music, or even simple sound effects.
3. How long should my podcast be?
The overall length of your podcast is something to be considered. My recommendation is – it depends!
If you plan to put one out every couple of days, stick with 10 to 15 minutes. Weekly you can get away with an hour, and if its a monthly release, I say you can get away with 1.5 hours.
The most critical point here is not the length, but the quality of your content 🙂
Stick with the timing, ensure you are on schedule, people find time to listen to a podcast because they know how long it will be, and they will fit this into their schedule.
4. Is your microphone of good quality?
This, to me, is absolutely important. Great audio is a big plus to great content! No one wants to hear inconsistent volumes, hard to understand tones or fizzles and crackles in their ear. Good sound brings you to the next level away from amateur to professional. You know what you are talking about!
This goes for any guests you have as well 🙂
5. Are you cleaning up your file before podcast launch?
Once your podcast is finished, I strongly recommend doing post-production to the file.
What is post-production?
Cleaning and editing the file is crucial to bring each of your production to another level. This is the time to add the sound effects, music jingles, prepare your cover art, show notes, and remove sections in the episode that you feel add no value to the podcast.
Follow these five steps, and you will have a great start on your podcasting adventure. Check out my Podcast Planner worksheet for preparing your episodes.
Happy podcasting,
Lisa
